Traces of the Earthquake at Issos-Epiphaneia: In the Light of Archaeological-Geological and Epigraphic Data

In the ancient city of Issos-Epiphaneia, located in the Erzin district of Hatay, multi-disciplinary research is planned to be carried out to determine earthquake effects on ancient construction, which is expected to provide data that will shed light on the earthquake history of the region.

In the research, which will examine the structures unearthed as a result of the excavations carried out in Issos-Epiphaneia, the aim is to document wall destruction and collapse patterns by considering the construction and architectural features of the buildings.

Archaeological findings collected from field studies will be blended with data produced by archaeology, ancient history, and epigraphy and will be evaluated together with the findings of geological surveys to be carried out within the scope of the excavations in the region. The results of the research will provide new insights to determine the effects of natural disasters on the ancient life and culture of the region, as well as new findings in earthquake history research
