Dr. Webb studies the visual and ceremonial culture of the Byzantine court, focusing primarily on the ninth and tenth centuries. She received her PhD in Art History in 2022 from Stanford University and her MA from Tufts University in 2013. She was previously a Dissertation Fellow at the Stanford Humanities Center and a Kress Institutional Fellow at the Bibliotheca Hertziana, Max-Plank Institute for Art History in Rome. Her project at ANAMED is an extension of her doctoral dissertation and elucidates the importance of eunuchs to Byzantine artistic production. It investigates eunuchs as artistic patrons in their own right and illuminates how their framing role in court ceremony was crucial to creating and maintaining a charismatic imperial image and transforming the court into a living image of heaven.
