Nazlı was the daughter of the famous printer, archaeologist and museum director Osman Hamdi Bey and his wife Marie/Naile. From 1907 to 1911, she kept a guestbook where close relatives, family friends and relatives, or people she visited left a short dedication or just a signature. This work attempts to identify these third-odd individuals and to analyze their relationship to Nazlı or her father, thus constituing a kind of portrait galley of the circle formed around the leading intellectual figure of Ottoman westernization and modernity. Bringing together facts and documents concerning this group of fascinating characters from the World of archaeology, art and culture, it proposes a colourful and lively illustration of a milieu extending from Eskihisar to Munich and from Kuruçeşme to Paris.
