Constructing Space in Medieval Anatolia through Ornament

Ms. Shevelkina is a PhD candidate in the Department of Art and Art History at Stanford University. She holds an MA from Hunter College, CUNY and a BA from Grinnell College, both in Art History. Her work now focuses on forms, materials, structures, and spaces as undergirding foundations of world-systems in an expanded medieval Mediterranean. Her ANAMED project investigates the presence and function of ornament in the art and architecture of Asia Minor between the sixth and thirteenth centuries, with a focus on the rupestrian monuments of Cappadocia.
