Aslıhan Gürbüzel is Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies at McGill University. She earned her PhD from Harvard University in 2016. Her research examines the production of knowledge outside the madrasa institution, with an emphasis on vernacularization of sciences and on Ottoman manuscript cultures. While at ANAMED, she will work on her first book based on her dissertation. The project studies popular preaching in early modern İstanbul and Anatolia, with a focus of the formation of a political public sphere and its impact on knowledge production.
