SARAT’s “Safeguarding and Rescuing Archaeological Assets” Online Program

ANAMED is now offering the online program “Safeguarding and Rescuing Archaeological Assets” created by the  SARAT project (Safeguarding Archaeological Assets of Türkiye), recipient of a prestigious Europa Nostra Award 2020 in the Education, Training and Awareness-Raising category and the runner up in the 2020 European Archaeological Heritage Prize of the European Association of Archaeologists under the management of the British Institute at Ankara (BIAA), in collaboration with Koç University’s Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations (ANAMED) and the United Kingdom branch of the International Council of Museums (ICOM UK). The program is offered through Koç University Online Programs as a Koç University Online Certificate Program.

The program aims to help build capacity and knowledge among professionals working in fields related with cultural assets and preferably with prior experience in archaeology, museology, history of art, cultural heritage, history, conservation, architecture, urban planning, and/or tourism.

1. Requirements

  • Applicants should be trained at the higher-education level in the fields indicated above or related fields. Those without such training, yet who work in fields related to cultural heritage, and especially archaeology, can also apply to the program.
  • Only being interested in cultural heritage and archaeology is not sufficient for applying to the program.
  • The curriculum is set at a graduate-student level. MA and PhD students and professionals in related fields can apply to the program to enhance their capacity and knowledge.
  • Advanced undergraduate students (4th year) could be accepted if there is available space, and if they have advanced experience in the field (e.g., excavation, restoration and/or conservation). Importantly, qualified professionals have priority.
  • Instruction will be in Turkish.

 

2. Program Structure

  • After review of the applications, ANAMED will inform applicants by e-mail if they are accepted into the program. Enrollment information and the relevant links to the program will be shared.
  • The program consists of 5 sections and 20 lessons.
  • Within the respective  program period, participants can pursue the program at their desired pace and thus according to their individual schedules.
  • Each lesson typically lasts approximately 50 minutes, and at the end of each lesson, participants are required to complete a series of multiple-choice test questions.
  • Participants may repeat test questions until they find the right answers. It is not, however, possible to continue to the next lesson  without correctly answering a set number of questions.
  • Because lessons within the program are arranged into sections according to the flow of subjects, it is not possible to complete lessons or sections by skipping or starting from the middle.
  • Participants can download the respective power-point course presentations, texts, and a one-page summaries of each lesson to form an archive for themselves. Program videos cannot be downloaded.

4. Certificates

Those who successfully complete all sections and tests are entitled to a certificate of completion (in Turkish) from Koç University.

 

5. Fees

There are no fees for participation in this online program.
